Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. Continued use of Hawaii Criminal History means acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Hawaii Criminal History does not retain those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our operation unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.

Data We Gather Automatically

Normal server logs record basic technical details when a page loads:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies and analytics help measure traffic, popular pages, and navigation patterns. A browser can block these small device files, although doing so may change how some features behave. Analytics information is reviewed in aggregate.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Hawaii Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to HCJDC, the Hawaii Judiciary, the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Hawaii Sex Offender and Other Covered Offender Registry, and local police routes across five county equivalents. Government access is governed by Hawaii's UIPA, HRS Chapter 92F, while HRS Chapter 846 controls state criminal-history dissemination. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention practices, and sharing rules apply to anything submitted through those tools. Review the provider's policy before running a query because those practices are outside our control.

Links to Other Websites

Links lead to Hawaii agencies, court portals, local police resources, legal services, and outside search providers. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal details.

Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is governed by their policies.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Some information may end up with:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices are used for information in our control. No online service can promise perfect security, so protection against every breach or loss cannot be guaranteed.

Users Under 18

The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when properly brought to our attention.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. Hawaii's Uniform Information Practices Act, HRS Chapter 92F, governs government records rather than this private site, while general Hawaii and federal consumer-protection rules may also apply. You may ask to:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing

Updates to This Policy
